Norweigan News: Obama Greater than Jesus

No, I am not kidding. The editorial in Politiken makes the comparison in the headline and then goes on to make the case in his opening:

He is provocative in insisting on an outstretched hand, where others only see animosity.

His tangible results in the short time that he has been active – are few and far between. His greatest results have been created with words and speeches – words that remain in the consciousness of their audience and have long-term effects.

He comes from humble beginnings and defends the weak and vulnerable, because he can identify himself with their conditions.

And no we are not thinking of Jesus Christ, whose birthday has just been celebrated - - but rather the President of the United States Barack Hussein Obama.

Whew, good thing they clarified it was Obama they intended to reference, not Jesus Christ.  The two are virtually interchangeable right?  Of course at this point it would have been appropriate to play down the comparison, make the case that Obama has not had 2000 or so years of impact on the world, etc.  After all, comparing Obama to Jesus is laughable and at the same time incredibly offensive.  None of this stops the Norweigan editorialist, however.

Instead the editorial goes on to make the case that Obama is, in fact greater than Jesus Christ largely because of his health care bill while Jesus only had a few miracles:
On the other hand, we have Jesus’ miracles that everyone still remembers, but which only benefitted a few. At the same time, we have the wonderful parables about his life and deeds that we know from the New Testament, but which have been interpreted so differently over the past 2000 years that it is impossible to give an unequivocal result of his work.

Obama is, of course, greater than Jesus – if we have to play that absurd Christmas game. But it is probably more meaningful to insist that with today’s domestic triumph, that he has already assured himself a place in the history books – a space he has good chances of expanding considerably in coming years.

Without, however, ever attaining the heavens....
You can't make this up, no one would ever believe it.  The Norwegians really need to bring Odin, Loki and Thor back from the Norse mythology graveyard.  They sorely need someone or something substantive to ply with Nobel prizes and lavish absurd praise upon.

Al Gore's Current TV Takes a Dig at Obama's Peace Prize

Current TV, the independent cable network led by former VP Al Gore aired this cartoon parody of Obama's acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize. The cartoon character Thorbjorn Jagland is just a tad reluctant to hand over the medal to Obama in light of the decision to send additional troops to Afghanistan. The decision "feels very Bushy." Evidently Al and libs have a hard time with the decision despite Obama's repeated campaign promise to focus on finishing the job in Afghanistan. Is it me or did everyone who voted for Obama just hear what they wanted to hear during that campaign?

19% Think Obama Has Earned Nobel Peace Prize

Via Memeorandum
New CNN poll:

19% think Obama has accomplished enough to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize which is down from 32% in October, wow.  I would love to know what those 19% think he has actually done so far.  CNN explains the why some have changed their mind since October:

"That number dropped 21 among Democrats and 10 points among independents, possibly due in part to Obama's recent decision to send 30,000 more U.S. combat troops to the war in Afghanistan," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
But although most people do not think the president currently deserves the peace prize, seven in 10 questioned - including a majority of Republicans - say he should go to Oslo, Norway Thursday to accept the award.
Well he went and gave his speech, which was incredibly boring in my humble opinion.  It was also incredibly long, again, in my humble opinion.   Kathryn Lopez's commentary on twitter was quite entertaining though, here's a sample:

Top 10 List of things funnier than the SNL opening skit 10/10/09

Last week's SNL opener was a hopeful start for those of us who believed the crew at SNL would never find anything humorous about the Obama presidency.   This week they were handed a golden  premise on a Nobel Prize platter and fell flat.  Just Karl of Patterico and Hot Air's Green Room fame saw it coming 13 hours before air time.  That alone was funnier than anything in the skit.  After a long look around conservative websites, I have come to the conclusion we know how to spot humor and how to write it.  Here is a top ten list that I have put together, the positioning was a judgment call.    I am sure everyone will have their own interpretation of the funniest.   They were all funnier than SNL, so without further ado ........... drumroll please!

Number 10: Nobel Peace Prize Generator

Number 9: Obama vows at gay dinner he will end "don't ask don't tell", Jake Tapper twitters about strange time warps in "breaking news"

Number 8: Via Breitbart TV, Meredith Viera makes an ass of herself with a young Navy pilot on Millionaire:

Number 7: The Peoples Cube's Cracker Jack Nobel Prize:

Number 6:  Scott Baio tells a Glenn Beck hater, who thinks he has caught Beck lying, he's full of it.

Number 5: Shep Smith Outraged By Bacon Cheese Doughnut Burger: "Sign Of The Apocalypse"

Number 4: Almost anything on twitter with the hash tag CNNFactCheck

Number 3:The Scott Baio finds the bright side of "Cash for Clunkers"

Number 2:  Membership has its privileges

Number 1:  Paco Enterprises locates the  transcripts from the proceedings of the Nobel Prize Committee and discovers It's Yewnanimous
Chairman Thorbjøm Jagland: Vell, ever’body, let’s get dis herring boat on de fjord. Ve vill now take under consideration nominations fer de Nobel Peace Prize. Sissel, vould yew like to go first?

Republicans Throw in its Lot with the Taliban? UPDATED

Ben Smith at Politico has the reaction from the DNC to Michael Steele's statement that Obama's winning the Nobel Prize was unfortunate.
"The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists - the Taliban and Hamas this morning - in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize," DNC communications director Brad Woodhouse told POLITICO. "Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize - an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride - unless of course you are the Republican Party.

"The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It's no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore - it's an embarrassing label to claim," Woodhouse said.
I have MSNBC tuned in and even a few of their reporters are claiming it does a disservice to others who have won in the past.  It's an absurd award that diminishes the value of the award.  Any opportunity to rip into Republicans for having the same reaction that many in the world  are having.  Look at the results of an MSNBC poll:

Lumping the Republicans in with the Taliban doesn't quite fit with the latest White House spin on the Taliban either.   Insanity reigns supreme it seems.

Michelle Malkin links the amazing bumper sticker at College Politico that says it all

Obama Awarded Nobel Prize for being Barack Obama

Barely a week has passed since Saturday Night Live scorched Obama as a do-nothing president, Obama is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Mickey Kaus suggests what Obama should do with it. Prof Jacobson at Le·gal In·sur·rec·tion wonders if Chris Matthews was on the committee. Rick Moran notes they lowered the bar to award Obama based on his first 11 days in office, causing him to conclude WTF?

Here is more WTF from the most surprising of sources, David Gregory and Matt Lauer:
