Uh Oh- Dem Senate Candidate Indicted

Via Memeorandum
A perfect Friday the 13th ending to an already lousy week for Democrats:
Longshot Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene was indicted Friday on two charges, including a felony charge of showing pornography to a teenage student in a South Carolina college computer lab.

Greene surprised the party establishment with his primary victory in June. His arrest in November was first reported by The Associated Press the day after he won the nomination.

Authorities said he approached a student in a University of South Carolina computer lab, showed her obscene photos online, then talked about going to her dorm room.
If convicted Greene could face up to 3 years for a misdemeanor or up to 5 for a felony conviction.  This is rough timing for Greene who is ramping up his campaign against Senator Jim DeMint.  I will bet DeMint was really starting to worry too.

GOP Ladies Night

Oh What a night. The big winners on this Super Tuesday of midterms: Meg Whitman GOP nomination Governor CA, Carly Fiorina GOP nomination CA Senate, Nikki Haley GOP nomination Governor South Carolina, Sharron Angle GOP nomination Nevada Senate and Blanche Lincoln who held on to the nomination for her Senate seat against a challenge on the left from Bill Halter. Blanche might as well enjoy the victory now because she will surely be defeated in November. Her challenger John Boozman leads her by a whopping 25 points as she heads off to defend her vote for ObamaCare in a state where 72% support repeal of the bill. Bye Bye Blanche.

Other notable winners included Senator Jim DeMint who faces a cake-walk to re-election in South Carolina and locally former Eagles tackle Jon Runyan won the GOP nomination to challenge John Adler for New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District seat.  Runyan had no trouble tackling the question of whether he lacked sufficient experience to handle the job:
"People question me all the time about my experience," said Runyan. "They question my experience in politics, and the first thing I always tell them is yes, I have no experience raising taxes over and over. I have no experience increasing the debt in a state."
Runyan seems to have developed a flair for this business. He sounded positively Reaganesque in that response.  Though there were many more winners in the primaries held in 12 states, the closely-watched races were dominated by a field of talented Republican women.   I am sure Senator DeMint and Mr. Runyan won't mind a little Kool and the Gang in celebration of "Ladies Night:"

DeMint First to Sign Contract From America

Via Twitter

Senator Jim DeMint issued a press release today announcing his support for the Contract From America:
“I am proud to stand with millions of Americans across the nation that are demanding real reform in Washington. They want an end to the deficit spending, borrowing, high taxes, and bailouts that have dragged our economy down and threaten the future for our children and grandchildren. This contract was created by the people and outlines a commonsense, constitutional approach to set our country back on the road to prosperity.

"This is a grassroots-generated positive agenda for reform that all Republicans, Democrats, and Independents should be able to support."
DeMint emphasizes the grassroots nature of the Contract which indeed was developed with the input of 450,000 voters nationwide. The Contract includes ten points considered the most positive solutions to the nation's most pressing problems:
1. Protect the Constitution
2. Reject Cap & Trade
3. Demand a Balanced Budget
4. Enact Fundamental Tax Reform
5. Restore Fiscal Responsibility & Constitutionally Limited Government in Washington
6. End Runaway Government Spending
7. Defund, Repeal, & Replace Government-run Health Care
8. Pass an ‘All-of-the-Above” Energy Policy
9. Stop the Pork
10. Stop the Tax Hikes
More details are available in Senator DeMint's press release linked above.  I am pleased to see number seven included in the list though it is hard to argue with any of the items included.  Now we need Pete Sessions to make good on his pledge to take the gavel or bust.  Politico reports the full Contract will be available for release in time for the fall campaign season.  Senator DeMint appears to be giving us a a sneak preview.

Carville: Health Care Will Be Obama's Waterloo

Via The DailyCaller

James Carville echoed the metaphor made famous this past summer by Senator Jim DeMint in an interview on "Good Morning America" earlier today. The Democratic strategist and pollster seemed uncertain Speaker Pelosi will actually have the votes necessary to pass health care but underscored the urgency to Democrats stating “If the bill loses, it proves Senator DeMint right. It will, I think, by and large, be a lot of the president’s Waterloo, and I think a lot of Democrats realize that.”

Despite the urgency, Carville seemed to find the path ahead a challenge to say the least. Carville expressed some disbelief Pelosi might actually have the votes as she claimed though he suggested it wasn't impossible: “But the math is pretty daunting. I don’t think it’s impossible but it’s going to be difficult. This is going to be a real, real fight.”   For those wondering just how much of a fight passing health care might be Keith Hennessey outlines the numerous hurdles Speaker Pelosi and Leader Reid face in making health care reform a reality. Not for the faint of heart, but if you are feeling really wonkish today take a gander at the mechanics of the two-bill strategy. None of this appears to be the simple "up or down vote" on health care the President and his cheerleading friends on the left would have you believe.

Despite the major hurdles facing Democrats, a cautionary note seems important here. Rasmussen finds Obama's health care reform got a bit of a bump after his summit last week. Any slight shift in winds in favor of the reform could sway a vote here or there in the House. Needless to say, this is no time to take our eye off the ball. We've seen Pelosi whip her caucus with the prowess of a circus lion tamer. "She's one tough cookie" about to face the toughest challenge of her political career.  The question might be whether she will allow Obama's Waterloo to become hers as well.

Snow Day!

Senator Jim DeMint tweets

Considering we are currently getting hit with another big snowstorm, I think Al Gore has some 'splainin to do.

Schools were closed quite early tonight which made my son pretty happy.  My husband is planning on working from home today, so full house here.  I will probably end up playing short order cook for the day while they enjoy their snow day.   Fortunately I made the trek to the supermarket to pick up all the essentials like milk, eggs and bread in case we are trapped at home for a month or something.  I think I have enough on hand to make french toast for the entire state of Rhode Island if need be.  Well, it's a pretty small state as states go but you know what I mean.

If you are in line to get hit with this snowstorm, I hope you enjoy your snow day.  Don't worry about global warming, the MSM has already thought up an explanation why these storms actually confirm global warming. Whew, that's a relief, now if they ever get around to covering the complete breakdowns at IPCC and the giant holes blown in the science in the last few months we might actually get somewhere.  Till then I am sure they will continue to ignore the men behind the curtain:
