Back from my holiday hiatus

Well, I am back after a rather unexpected holiday hiatus. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and is enjoying the new year. I am enjoying having my daughter home from college and slowly recovering from a very hectic Christmas.

I find myself struggling to find a story to jump back in the blogging business with today. Tomorrow is, of course, the start of a new Congress and is sure to bring with it quite a bit of news. The media is gearing up to make John Boehner into the bogeyman before he takes possession of Pelosi's broom. Who's crying now?

Our fearless reader is busy wishing someone read his START treaty before it was ratified in the Senate. Another case of passing something so we can find out what is in it? Good thing it was only something as trivial as our national defense at stake this time instead of our health care. Keep up the good work there champ.

START was one of a string of so-called legislative victories that had the left-wing media filled with hope Obama and his agenda were here to stay after his massive defeat in the midterms. Hey, I thought the election was supposed to have been a restraining order. Jon Stewart noticed this as well but disputed the media meme "Obama as the Comeback Kid." Stewart argues he is Luke Skywalker instead. Mediaite explains the twisted analogy:
Just like Luke defeated the Evil Empire and blew up the Deathstar, so too did Obama defy outrageous odds in getting elected as The New Hope. But the celebration quickly ended as the “Republic-an Empire” struck back, with a string of political victories that made the young Jedi knight (Obama) look weak and impotent. There’s even the frozen planet of Hoth with the cave Wampa monster (who like Sarah Palin, can see the planet Tatooine from her cave.)

The twisted analogy ends with Jabba the Hutt and his chosen bounty hunter Boba Fett getting defeated as lameduck Return of the Jedi. (The repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell? Celebrated by dancing Ewoks on the planet Endor!)

This clip is 8 minutes long but Stewart gets to the Obama Skywalker stuff at about the 4 minute mark. As strained as the analogy might be, Stewart makes a point that needs to be reinforced. Rumors of Obama's demise were premature just as rumors health care was mostly dead were in the days after Scott Brown's election. Let's get busy in 2011 finding the candidate who will take this guy out of the White House in 2012 once and for all.

Jon Stewart Reads "The New York Crimes"

A little humor break courtesy of Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show."  Stewart tackles the growing list of ethics problems facing a couple of prominent New York politicians, namely Charlie Rangel and David Paterson.  I have seen funnier clips from Stewart but this is good enough particularly the second half addressing Rangel.  His comment about Nancy Pelosi at around the 6:00 mark was perfect.

Jon Stewart on the TOTUS Visit to Sixth Grade Class Room

The White House has been on defense ever since pictures surfaced that appeared to show him speaking to a group of elementary school students with a teleprompter.  While Obama did bring his handy side kick along for the visit to the classroom the picture actually shows him giving a statement to the press.  POTUS went solo when speaking with the 6th graders.

Still, Jon Stewart thinks the presidential podium and the prompters  for a short statement in an elementary school is a bit over the top.  Really, isn't that the truth?  Here is a brief clip of Stewart skewering Obama with a reminder not to get too big for his britches:

Olbermann Apologizes to Jon Stewart

To Scott Brown, not so much. Did he walk back the offensive Dred Scott comparison, no. Looks like Olbermann is just a bit embarrassed for having had one of the cool "truth tellers" make a monkey of him on his show. Still, at least he admits he has been over the top lately which is something I guess.

Jon Stewart Destroys Olbermann and Defends Michelle Malkin

This clip was quite the buzz on twitter late last night.  Olbermann is going to need medication if another thing breaks against the Democrats this week.  Scratch that, we already knew he needed medication.  Still, his ranting this week is a step beyond the usual insanity we see from Olbermann and it is getting progressively worse as the week wears on.  I posted Olbermann's  Dred Scott diatribe with Alan Grayson where the two let loose on the Citizen's United ruling handed down from the Supreme Court.  His rantings on Scott Brown are the subject of Jon Stewart's skewering  in this case, however.

Stewart does an amazing job with his fisking of Olbermann.  Conservatives will love the part where he turns the tables on Olbermann's attack on Brown when he apologizes for failing to include the charge of sexism to his list of insane "name calling."    Stewart uses the bit when Olbermann attacks Michelle Malkin calling her a "big mashed up bag of meat with lipstick," against him with aplomb.  Michelle noted the hypocrisy of Olbermann's sexism charge as well.  Update: found a clip to post so enjoy!

The Republicans are Playing Chess While the Democrats ...

H/T : Hot Air

I've posted a few Daily Show clips in the past but this is definitely one of the best.  Jon Stewart does a full 10 minutes on the Massachusetts election highlighting nearly all of Martha Antoinette's worst moments.  Towards the end he really lets loose on the Democrats desperate need to maintain their 60 vote super majority when Bush did "whatever the f*** he wanted to do!" without anywhere near the majority Dems currently enjoy.

Truth be told Bush courted Democrats and pushed legislation that Democrats found appealing.  In his earliest days in the White House he sought Ted Kennedy's support for No Child Left Behind and got it passed.  Later he pushed the prescription drug legislation successfully as well.  Of course some of this legislation angered his base and did nothing to win the support of the left.  Still, the Obama administration and the Democratic Congress have not attempted to work with Republicans and would rather cry about Republican obstructionism.  We all know we didn't have the votes to obstruct anything which brings us to the vote today in Massachusetts.  While we are waiting for the polls to close, some humor from a frustrated liberal pointing to the failures of Democrats is a delicious time filler.  Here's the clip:

Jon Stewart Sees a Bit of Deja Vu in the Afghanistan Speech

It's not often I would post a Jon Stewart clip two days in a row, but this is a good one. Stewart is not only one of the few comedians who finds humor in criticism of the Obama administration, he is one of the few willing to be critical at all. Stewart compares Obama's speech to Bush's speech 2007 and finds a few similarities. The difference, in my opinion, is Bush believed in the mission and wasn't signaling anything less than full commitment when he sent our military to battle. Stewart doesn't see that same resolve, "Our resolve is unwavering, but it turns out our Discover card is over the limit."

This is a bit long but funny and to the point, no one really liked Obama's Afghanistan speech:

Jon Stewart Tackles Hacked Global Warming Emails

Unlike the rest of the MSM, Jon Stewart acknowledges the leaked emails from the CRU at the University of East Anglia.  It doesn't convince him there's no man made global warming, however, this will get the news out to a wide audience who tend to get their news from "the Daily Show" or "Colbert."  Stewart starts with a reminder of the ACORN scandal and moves on to the hacked emails which get a full airing to some of the most damaging emails.  At the very least the scandal has given true believers pause to think about the credibility of the scientists.  There are some great lines here including, “Poor Al Gore. Global warming debunked via the very Internet you invented.”

Allahpundit notes Jim Inhofe, who gets his share of ribbing in this piece, must be fairly happy with the attention:
No less a skeptic than Jim Inhofe was sufficiently pleased with this bit to post it to his own YouTube account, even though its primary target ultimately is, er, Jim Inhofe. Think of it as the “Daily Show” equivalent of Obama’s new timetable: Very far from ideal, but probably the best you’re going to do from a lefty.
