This clip was quite the buzz on twitter late last night. Olbermann is going to need medication if another thing breaks against the Democrats this week. Scratch that, we already knew he needed medication. Still, his ranting this week is a step beyond the usual insanity we see from Olbermann and it is getting progressively worse as the week wears on. I posted Olbermann's Dred Scott diatribe with Alan Grayson where the two let loose on the Citizen's United ruling handed down from the Supreme Court. His rantings on Scott Brown are the subject of Jon Stewart's skewering in this case, however.
Stewart does an amazing job with his fisking of Olbermann. Conservatives will love the part where he turns the tables on Olbermann's attack on Brown when he apologizes for failing to include the charge of sexism to his list of insane "name calling." Stewart uses the bit when Olbermann attacks Michelle Malkin calling her a "big mashed up bag of meat with lipstick," against him with aplomb. Michelle noted the hypocrisy of Olbermann's sexism charge as well. Update: found a clip to post so enjoy!
Seriously, it's almost impossible to comprehend how these two intellectual giants rationalize comparing today's Supreme Court ruling to to Dred Scott. Olberman begins by noting Grayson was in the courtroom when the Supreme Court announced its' decision and asks for Graysons reaction. Grayson immediately responds he is shocked and goes on to elaborate the decision is the most irresponsible since Dred Scott. Olbermann of course agrees.
Project 21, a black leadership group issued a press release condemning Grayson's comparison to Dred Scott:
Bishop Council Nedd II: "In Dred Scott, the Court equated people with property. The Court's decision today was about giving people a voice. There is no correlation between the two. Congressman Grayson needs to apologize. His flippant and unenlightened statement offends me personally, and it disrespects generations of black people who suffered from slavery." (Council Nedd II is the bishop of the Chesapeake and the Northeast for the Episcopal Missionary Church.)
Horace Cooper: "Where has Representative Alan Grayson been? He compares today's landmark decision - in which free speech trumps FEC restrictions - to the awful ruling that black people are nothing more than property. He's off base yet again. It's more than a little ironic that Democrats praised Dred Scott when it was handed down over a hundred years ago, yet now stand opposed to fundamental freedoms such as free speech today." (Horace Cooper is a former visiting assistant professor at the George Mason University School of Law.)
Grayson makes the direct comparison in the following clip quite early in the segment. He equates the finding in Dred Scott that slaves and their free born children did not have constitutional rights to his summary of Citizens United, only corporations have constitutional rights. He elaborates saying the ruling permits bribery on the largest scale imaginable and of course Olbermann agrees. The four minute segment is filled with such hyperbole and outright lies it's hard to imagine they seriously believe what they say. But then, of course, this Olbermann and Grayson we're talking about, anything is possible.
Keith Olbermann ended his broadcast tonight with one of his Murrowesque reports from the health care battlefield. He acknowledges, however, there has been no war as he desperately quotes Churchill in his opening of a promised special commentary on health care reform:
O]ur loyal, brave people ... should know the truth. ... they should know that we have sustained a defeat without a war
Oh the drama. Given the choice of this "perversion of health care reform" or jail, Olbie chooses jail. After railing for a few minutes over the moderates in the Democratic party, Republicans, bipartisanship and a bizarre story about being called a liberal, Olbermann addresses the President directly and begs him to embrace the left. His conclusion "DO NO HARM" and warns signing such a bill will be done at Obama's peril.
Mark this the day the leftist propaganda machine built to serve the Obama administration comes back to bite them. Will Gibbs declare Olbermann irrelevant as he has done with Howard Dean? Will Olbermann and Maddow be invited back for a private strategy meeting with Obama? Stay tuned, as the Democratic civil war will soon need David O. Selznick to produce the epic drama for the silver screen.
Via Gateway Pundit, this is typical Olbermann spreading as much disinformation in a three minute segment as is humanly possible. In comparing protesters at health care town halls to Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists, Olbermann fails to mention the black conservatives who were attacked by SEIU thugs in purple shirts. The six who were arrested for actual violence at the Missouri townhall, including the SEIU thugs, never merit a mention while Keith gets his rant on.
Why does parent company General Electric allow Olbermann and his ilk to destroy their news brand like this? Oh yeah, too many reasons to count.
