Political Calculation: Arlen Specter Bashing Hillarycare

H/T:YID With LID: Video of Arlen Specter Bashing State Run Healthcare (Hillarycare)

Pat Toomey is going to be a handful for poor ole Benedict Arlen; watch the following advertisement to see why:

Can we put Toomey in charge of all GOP advertising from now on? Specter betrayed my vote in 2004, why would you trust him to treat yours any other way?

The Road Out of Oz: Recent Polls bring Good News For Coming Elections.

First, via Right Pundits a recent poll shows Toomey leading Specter by a stunning 12 points. The survey was conducted by Rasmussen who polled 1000 likely voters on the Pennsylvania Senate election for 2010. In a head-to-head match up of Joe Sestak and Patrick Toomey, Toomey held a smaller though decisive lead of 8 points. This was a dramatic change from the previous poll conducted in June where Specter led Toomey by 11 points.
Rasmussen also found that Pennsylvanians oppose health care 53 to 42. The opposition is firm too, as Rasmussen notes:
But the intensity is clearly with those who are opposed to the plan. Just 21% of Keystone State voters Strongly Favor the plan while 41% are Strongly Opposed.

Rasmussen's Daily Tracking Poll shows President Obama's total approval at a new low of 47% with 52% disapproving. More below the cut:

Clicking Heels in PA - Specter & Toomey in Deadheat

Via PA Watercooler Quinnipiac released a poll this morning showing Specter leading Toomey by an insignificant 1 point:
A Quinnipiac survey released this morning found Specter leading Toomey by a statistically insignificant one point in a general election matchup, 45 percent to 44 percent. More troubling for Specter, a near-majority of voters say he doesn’t deserve reelection, according to the poll.

As PA Watercooler wisely notes, "Specter is the perfect illustration of what is wrong with our political system today." Benedict Arlen could care less about loyalty, he is entirely about getting himself re-elected. Replacing Specter with a strong conservative like Pat Toomey seems like the perfect medicine to what ails career pols like Arlen, send them home.
