Jon Runyan to Tackle Congress?

PolitickerNJ has an interesting scoop for those from the Philadelphia area or anyone interested in the fight to take back the House in 2010. Former Eagles star Jon Runyan is considering a run against the Freshman Rep. John Adler (D NJ-03). Adler is on the list of GOP targeted seats in hopes of retiring Pelosi from her role as Speaker.  If anyone could tackle the job of taking that gavel from Pelosi, Runyan can.  The question remains whether he will, however:

There is a deep bench of potential candidates, but some Republicans have one in mind who could clear the field: Philadelphia Eagles legend Jon Runyan, a Mount Laurel resident.

Sources tell PolitickerNJ.com that Assemblywoman Dawn Addiego (R-Evesham) - who knows Runyan because their children attend school together - has talked to him about running.  Runyan, who is not currently active in the NFL but has not retired, has not ruled out a run.  It is unclear, however, how serious the prospect is.

Reached for comment by PolitickerNJ.com, Addiego said "I don't think I'm at liberty to discuss that right now."

There has been continued rumors that Runyan could well end up back on the Eagles offense before the year is out.  While I had been hopeful Runyan might be in Iggles green again this year, I would rather see him tackle Pelosi.  Let's hope the pressure builds for a Runyan run in 2010.

CNN on the Obama Referenda

I thought this analysis by John King was pretty good because it highlights distinct elements of the vote which at the end of the day can be used to underscore how today's vote reflects on the Obama administration and agenda regardless of the outcome. If, for example, Corzine manages to pull out a win we would be able to look to shifts in the votes of Independents compared to patterns seen a year ago in the presidential election, to determine whether Obama is gaining or losing that group. There is some effort to spin here but the bottom line is they can't spin it all.



Of course we can't discount the thug factor that may play a role in the Jersey election. When the Democrats feel the need to bring out the gang members to GOTV, they will have a hard time claiming they enjoy any real support at all in my opinion. Democrats are so desperate that in spite of all the recent scrutiny on ACORN fraud, they are addicted to the type of mischief ACORN can wreak on an election.

Just a reminder there has been lots of corruption in New Jersey over the years but this past summer 44 were arrested in charges of money laundering, bribes and sales of body parts. Jon Stewart covered it back in July:

How about all those emails between Corzine and former girlfriend who just so happened to be the state worker's union president? Democrats really have a love affair with those unions don't they?

Now when the election is too close to call in polls, comes news the usual cast of characters may be at work to make sure Corzine is re-elected. John Fund made an appearance on Glenn Beck today to discuss the same ole, same ole pattern of election fraud that appears to be looming in today's election in New Jersey:

Outcome of Virginia and NJ Elections Tied to Health Care

This week's Wall Street Journal Report on Fox, underscores just how significant the upcoming elections in New Jersey and Virginia are in curtailing the Obama legislative agenda. Real Clear Politics average of recent polling data shows Christie with a 3.8 point lead over embattled incumbent John Corzine. Christie's lead has narrowed as the election draws nearer and as you will see from the following clip the White House has invested fully in the Corzine campaign:


Dan Balz reports in today's Washington Post, the race most likely to show a clear referendum on the Obama administration is the Virginia race:

Virginia may be a better barometer of the public mood than New Jersey, given the commonwealth's significance in Obama's election last year and the absence of an incumbent in the race. Although both races are focused largely on state issues, the New Jersey contest has been all about the embattled incumbent.

McDonnell maintains a 7.2 point lead over Creigh Deeds according to Real Clear Politics' average of polling data. Democrats seem willing to pull out all stops to assist the candidacy of Creigh Deeds. Red State reports efforts are underway to undercut the impact of military absentee ballots:

The Virginia State Board of Elections argued in their most recent filing that they have no legal obligation to send out military absentee ballots in a timely manner. Restated, the State of Virginia has argued in a federal court filing that they can legally send out absentee ballots to active duty soldiers the day before an election. Restated again, theDemocratic Chairwoman of the Virginia State Board of Election (appointed by the Democratic National Committee Chair Tim Kaine, in his capacity as Virginia Governor) Jean Cunningham just claimed a legal basis for massively raising the barrier to voting for soldiers at war.

Look for Democrats to pull out all the stops in these two important elections. Their importance to the Obama agenda cannot be overstated. As Kim Strassel noted in the video above, the administration has placed enormous significance on getting health care passed before these two elections take place. With clear majorities in both the House and the Senate, the outcome of these two races may be all that stands between success or failure to pass health care legislation.
